CONSULTING SERVICES

In addition to the private practice of podiatry, Dr. Blass has been proud to serve as a consultant to a variety of organizations. He became known during a period of changing coding and documentation requirements, as an individual with a knowledge of standard of care and the necessary medical record documentation needed to support both proper care of the patient and correct billing of services rendered.

For years he served as a consultant to the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (now the Department of Health). His work consisted of record review and reporting to the licensing board of Florida as to the quality and standard of care of physicians under review.

For years he has performed similar services for review organizations, working with insurance companies in reviewing patient records to determine necessity of care and the relation between foot conditions and injury, such as worker’s compensation and automobile liability. There are at least three review organizations actively using his services.

His exposure in this review activity led to requests from multiple legal firms in the business of defending physicians on malpractice or licensing actions. Dr. Blass has built a reputation of fair and dependable record review performed rapidly and at reasonable expense.

LECTURING

Dr. Blass is a regular lecturer both to small groups and large meetings. He is on the speaker’s bureau of Pedinol (a drug company providing products primarily for podiatry, pediatrics, and dermatology). He lectures yearly for the Florida Podiatric Medical Association with audiences consisting of both doctors and podiatry assistants. He has also had the honor of nationwide lecturing, including the American Podiatric Medical Association, National Association of Medical Coders, Georgia, California, and New York Podiatric Medical Associations, and the American Association of Podiatric Medical Assistants. Topics have been varied, from the seriousness of biohazardous waste, to the hosting of a mock game show: “Modifier Jeopardy”. He has also lectured to non-podiatry audiences, including hospital nursing staff and groups of individuals interested in foot care. With a combination of valuable information and entertaining delivery, he continues to appear on meeting programs.
